I. Daniel Sene and sons -- Daniel was born in 1625, probably in Ireland or England. His father is probably John Sene, descendant of French Huguenots, religious reformers who were exiled to England/Ireland during the Elizabethan era.

Sources: Immigration records on Ancestry.com (1500-1900); wife not listed; sons included James, Bryant, and Denis (also listed in Immigration records).

Early Maryland Settlers (Skordas, Gust--editor): list of early settlers taken from land records; index to name of immigrants.

II. Bryan(t) Seney (Sweeny) -- son of Daniel. Married Ann Newton in 1684; St. Peter's Parish, Maryland. Died 1705 in St. Peter's Parish, Maryland.

Sources: Will found (Ancestry.com) Lists sons:

Sweeny, Bryan,Talbot Co.,25th Oct., 1699;
22nd Feb., 1699.
To wife Ann, extx., personalty.
To eld. son Edmond, sons Bryan and Owen, personalty.
To sons John and William and their hrs., 100 A. each (unnamed).
Test: Jno. Alexander, Peter Watts, Wm. Jones, Eliza: Ladimore. 6. 403. MARYLAND CALENDAR OF WILLS: Volume 2
VOLUME II.

Only son not listed is James, who was born the year Bryant died.

III. James Swaney (Sweney, Sweany) -- born 1705 in Talbot, St. Peter's Parish, Maryland. Son of Bryant and Ann Sweney. He married Frances Ward, probably in Maryland 1729. He may have also been married to a woman by the name of Mary Jane Blizzard, of whom I only found a marriage record w/ no date (it was recorded in North Carolina, where James died, but I will not be too quick to assume this marriage was after Frances or may even be linked to James at all.

James fought in the Revolutionary War as a private in Maryland. (Source: National Archives (NARA) Revolutionary War Rolls)

Facts found: First son born in 1729. Frances was born in 1716, making her only 13 at time of birth of first son. Curious -- even back then it was unusual for men to marry women so young, perhaps her birthdate is wrong?

I was having trouble a few years ago even finding Frances's surname. It was always thought it was Williams or Dorsett, but DNA testing linked her step-father George Wells to the Ward family.

Read the article found on Rootsweb here.

Children of James and Frances were:

James Swaney b. 1729
George Wells Sweany b. 1735
Susannah Sweany b. 1737
Edward Sweany b. 1740
William Sweany b. 1743
Joseph Sweany b. 1747 d. 1803
John Sweany b. 1748 d. 1810

IV. William Sweany (Sweney) -- born in 1743 to James and Frances Sweany. He is listed in the Harbaugh Family Records on Ancestry.com. He married Christina Harbaugh, daughter of Ludwig and Christina Weller Harbaugh on 4 May 1779, 3 years after our country's independence. It is not recorded on which date he died, but it is possible he died in Ohio, probably migrating w/ his family there.

It is recorded that Christina lived to be 101 years old! She was born in 9 Jan 1764 in Harbaugh Valley, Frederick County, Maryland and died 27 Oct 1865 in Port Washington, Tuscawaras Co., Ohio.

Sources: Harbaugh Family Records (Maryland newspaper/documents at Ancestry.com); Early Maryland Marriages (Ancestry.com)

Children of William and Christina: Elizabeth, John, Daniel, Samuel, Jacob, and William.

Descendants of William and Christina Sweney are continued in migration to Ohio.
