Descendants of William Sweany and Christina Harbaugh (continued from the First Sweaneys in America) -----

The children of William Sweney and Christina Harbaugh are:

1. Elizabeth Sweney (b. 1801)
2. John Sweney (b.1801)
3. Daniel Sweany (1780-1848)
4. Samuel Sweany (b. 1783)
5. Jacob (b. 1788)
6. William (1792-1848)

Daniel is the only child that I have any information on from the above siblings.

I. Daniel Sweany was born 1780 in Frederick County, Maryland. He married Ellen Dunbar 18 Sept 1801. I do not know anything about Ellen, and census records place her as being born in either Ireland or Maryland.

I do know that Daniel and Ellen migrated w/ Daniel's parents and siblings to Rose County, Ohio, where both Daniel and Ellen died.

Children of Daniel and Ellen are:

1.Thomas Sweany (1805-1881)
2. Jacob Sweany (1811-1883)
3. Eliza (b. 1840)
There were also 2 other nameless children born in 1817 and 1827, but they may have been
infants when they died, nevertheless they are recorded.

II. Thomas Sweany was born in 1805 in Frederick County, Maryland. He married Anna Maria Roof on 28 Nov 1830, probably in Tuscawaras County, Ohio. Anna was the eldest daughter of Frederick Roof and Rebecca Chambers. Her sister Mahala was married to Thomas's brother, Jacob.

Thomas fought in the Civil War alongside his sons, Frederick and Daniel. He fought as a private in the 9th Calvary for the Union in the Ohio Infantry.

Sources: Civil War records (Ancestry.com), Census lists the include names are all in Tuscawaras County, Ohio (Ancestry.com, years 1850, 1870, 1880)

children of Thomas and Anna are:

1. Jamima "Jennie" Sweany (b. 1832) married Charles Rittenhouse.
2. Jacob Henry Sweany (1843-1881); survived Civil War (Indiana infantry)
3. Frederick Reginald Sweaney (1835-1887)
4. Daniel Sweany (1843-1931) m. Abigail Huber; Corporal in Civil War; enlisted 28 Oct 1861
at the age of 18 for Union in Ohio and mustered out 13 Aug 1865 at Little Rock, Arkansas.
Company B, 80th Infantry Regiment.
5. Mary A. Sweany (b. 1847) m. James Korns

III. Frederick Reginald Sweaney was born 18 May 1835 in New Philadelphia, Tuscawaras County, Ohio. He married Sarah Ann Thompson 19 April 1859 in Tuscawaras Co., Ohio, eldest child of Jeremiah Thompson and Louisa Witcomb, full blooded American Indians of the Cherokee Tribe in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

Facts about Frederick: 1) named after the county in Maryland where his family migrated from 2)he fought in the Civil War as recorded on his gravestone (161st Regiment in Ohio infantry). 3)Moved his family to Chanute, Kansas around 1875.

Sources: Census Records: years 1860-1870 in Tuscawaras, Ohio; 1880-1920; Chanute, Kansas

children of Frederick and Sarah are:

1. Edgar Daniel Sweaney (1860-1938)
